Steam Day

Anyone else remember when the Smith and Eastwood engine was being rebuilt on our site?
The engine was rescued from a mill in Bradley where it had powered a weaving shed, it was designed as a replacement for a beam engine , and it had to fit into the space that was left when the previous engine was removed. This accounts for its shape and size.
It is thought that Smith and Eastwood only built about 25 engines, and we think this is the last one in existence.
The engine was offered to us so that it could be preserved and arrived on site as a pile of bits. The volunteers took over 10 years to extend the building, organise groundworks and rebuild the engine with its inaugural steaming on site taking place in 2015.
