I don’t personally know Tim Morton, but I know his daughter and that’s enough for me to know the kind of man he is. Before I even knew Kali I recognized his face almost daily as a runner at Barboursville park. In 2025 tim began experiencing terrible pain and could no longer run or walk. After several misdiagnoses, he was finally found to have Lyme disease. He’s underwent multiple treatment options with no success so far. His pain is so bad that he can no longer do things he once enjoyed like running, walking, and caring for his grandson, Cal. Several of us who know Kali had planned to run 13 trail miles at Barboursville park for fun anyway. Then we decided to get a go fund me going and instead of paying for a race, we would donate to his go fund me. The idea behind this is that 13 trail miles are going to be HARD, but while we’re enduring something super hard we will keep Tim in mind and remember that he would wish he was out on those trails…so we can do hard things!
This is an unorganized event. Anyone who wants to participate, we will
Have a detailed map available starting from rooted fitness to the park and back! Again this is a TOTALLY free event. No registration required, we just ask you donate at least $1 to the go fund me to support Tim and his family in any past and future medical bills (to hopefully get him an answer for some successful treatment-he’s been here, Cleveland clinic, and to some functional doctors already). His wife is currently taking unpaid time off some days to help care for him.
There will also be a 3 mile, stroller friendly option available day of!
We will also be doing a tshirt fundraiser for Tim and his family with the proceeds going to their go fund me. The link for those will be available soon.
I’ll post the map in this event closer to time once we test the route!
Again, 13 trail miles is going to be hard, but that’s what we want! To do something hard to honor someone special! You’re welcome to come walk, hike, or run it all, part of it, or literally 1 mile of it in support (as we’re aware the Marshall half is the weekend before)! You can also donate directly to the go fund me set up by his daughter without participating day of!
Anyone who’s interested in this event probably enjoys walking or hiking or running in some form or fashion…imagine that was taken from you due to pain and no solution in sight. Because of that, we’ll do this for Tim! Hopefully we can raise enough money and they can explore some other treatment options to get any answers at all!
