ABOUT THE SHOW:
In EURYDICE, Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists, and breathtaking beauty, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.
A NOTE FROM DIRECTOR DEVYNN THOMAS:
Sarah Ruhl is a visionary playwright whose work, spanning over two decades, offers a poetic and profoundly unique perspective on the world. Her writing, which first drew me to her work, blends lyrical beauty with deeply human themes, often exploring reality through a surreal lens. EURYDICE is no exception. Inspired by the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Ruhl reimagines the story from Eurydice’s perspective, introducing poignant departures from the original tale. Beyond the love story of Eurydice and Orpheus, the play delves into Eurydice’s relationship with her late father, weaving themes of love, loss, memory, and the afterlife into an emotional narrative. It is a stunning, evocative script—one that resonates deeply—and I am thrilled to bring it to the Cellar at 4CP!
