- **Event Description**: A comprehensive and practical half day training in how to embed trauma informed frameworks into music therapy practice.About this EventFor music therapists supporting people with complex trauma histories, understanding how trauma shapes brain development—and how music can support healing—is essential to delivering effective, developmentally appropriate care.CARRM for Music Therapist offers an insightful and practical half day training, where registered music therapist Sarah Dunston introduces how the application of Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) , as well as First Nations frameworks (to support cultural safety) can be incorporated into music therapy contexts across the lifespan.Grounded in contemporary research on how complex and intergenerational trauma impacts neurobiology, this training equips you with the knowledge and tools to design trauma-informed interventions that foster regulation, relational capacity, healing and growth for clients of all ages.You will learn how to:Structure music therapy sessions to support nervous system regulationEmbed First Nations forwards frameworks into practicePractical demonstration of rhythmic, sensory-rich interventions and activities including drumming, clapstick play, body percussion, movement to music, sensory instrument play ( for nervious system regulation) and more.Discussions on trauma theory and how NMT can be used as an innovative framework for practice.About Your Facilitator: Sarah Dunston brings 12+ years of experience as a Registered Music Therapist and Teacher in a variety of community contexts through her business, Melodica Music Therapy. She developed the CARRM program as a result of her current HDR research studies through Griffith University's Creative Arts Research Institute as well as through her work at Act for Kids — running music therapy programs for young children impacted by abuse and neglect and as lead music facilitator for the Creative Transitions Project, an initiative using music to heal and empower women and children who have experienced domestic violence and are living in transitional housing. Sarah has presented this work at conferences in Australia and internationally, including the AMTA conference (2019), C&K Early Childhood Education Conference (2023) ,the Trauma Aware Education Conference (2022).Training attendence is equal to 4 CPD points as stipulated by AMTA requirements for professional practice.
