- **Event Description**: Develop your confidence and practical outdoor skills through hands-on experiencesAbout this EventJoin Field Studies Ireland for a practical introduction to Nature Skills, a term we use to describe a range of skills often associated with bushcraft, Forest School practices, and wilderness skills.Through meaningful, hands-on experiences in natural environments, participants will explore and develop these skills using Outdoor Education as our approach to learning.This fully outdoor course focuses on developing personal confidence, knowledge and practical skills in fire lighting, shelter building, knot tying, the safe use of cutting tools and campfire cooking.Participants will learn by doing, experimenting with different techniques, materials and approaches while developing their understanding of how to enjoy the outdoors safely and responsibly, while managing risk.This is not a survival course, but rather an opportunity to develop useful and transferable outdoor skills. Outdoor Education is central to our approach, with learning supported through practical experiences and exploration.Field Studies Ireland is a not-for-profit organisation specialising in Outdoor Education. Our expertise lies in using Outdoor Education as a methodology across a wide range of subjects, settings and environments, placing us in a unique position to deliver practical, meaningful training. We exist to empower access to Outdoor Education, helping people and organisations bring what they do outdoors, for the benefit of education, development and wellbeing.Who is this course for?This introductory course is suitable for adults wishing to develop their practical outdoor skills for the first time, and anyone interested in refreshing or developing their existing knowledge.It is particularly relevant to teachers, educators, youth workers, volunteers, outdoor enthusiasts and others interested in developing practical skills for use in natural environments. No previous experience is required.What to expectExpect a friendly, practical and engaging learning experience, delivered entirely outdoors by Mark O’Connor, founder of Field Studies Ireland.Participants will spend the course learning and practising a variety of nature skills, supported by demonstrations, shared experiences and opportunities to explore different techniques at their own pace.This course also provides a foundation for those wishing to progress to the certified ‘Leading: Nature Skills’ course, where the focus moves towards safely teaching and facilitating these skills for others.Group TrainingField Studies Ireland regularly delivers this training directly to organisations, teams and community groups, often within their own local outdoor environments.
