Starting Realities- A Workshop on Documentary theatre

Starting Realities 1: This is the first, in a year long series of workshops on Documentary theatre to be held across India.

What is Documentary theatre?
Documentary theatre is theatre that uses existing documentary material {such as personal stories, newspapers articles, interviews, letters, archives, photographs or videos} about real events and people as a starting point for performance.

This interdisciplinary workshop will focus on performance making and use of documentary material towards creating a performance.

Fake news. Manufactured consent. Artificial intelligence. Algorithmic love. In post truth times, how do we make sense of our tangible or imagined worlds? What happens when fictional worlds collide with seemingly real ones in performance?

The workshop is open to all- We would love to have non-actors, activists, journalists, artists, students, academics & researchers interested in performance making with real stories.

Public showcase of participants work-in-progress will be on
on 15th July at 7 p.m.
This is open to all audiences.

Drama Queen, her Documentary theatre company, a first of its kind in India, focusses on personal histories and archives to extend the idea of theatre to create audacious work. The focus of her theatre practice is undocumented narratives & archival absences.
