The Humming Tree presents
Raw Stock Magazine and Film Club
As we move further in time and as the future becomes the present, the importance of looking back at film history is all the more apparent, and of course, it is incredibly pleasurable.
Purpose of Raw Stock Film Club and Magazine is to share with people of our generation (as well as older and younger) the amazing movies that one can find in film history. Music and film have a long history together, and so the study of music on film will also form an important part of this.

Raw Stock Magazine will be a kind of guide to an extension of Raw Stock Film Club. The magazine will contain opinion pieces, suggested lists of films, studies of different eras, rich photographs, montage edits of great imagery and much more.

Raw Stock Magazine and Film Club is an appetizer for audiences and movie lovers to explore films outside of the obvious, mainstream options available on streaming and in cinema halls.

Theme for June 2018 - 'The Incredible 70s'
The theme for the first gathering is 'The Incredible 70s'. This period of time has seen great change and evolution in film language, the world over.
America saw the birth of both the freewheeling Indie Films like Taxi Driver, Mean Streets as well as the Blockbusters like Star Wars, Rocky etc. We're going to study the birth of 'New Hollywood' - the key directors that contributed to this Renaissance, and how the blockbuster swallowed up the indie film and also do a survey of European, Japanese, and Asian film of the 70s, the key genres that emerged and developed around this time
The aim with the Film Club will be to tackle a theme every and to select 2 or 3 films for each session that are intense, entertaining and serve as essential viewing in order to understand that theme or era hoping to ignite the curiosity of audiences to explore more on their own. The selection of films for the film club event will be gritty, exciting and ones that were game-changing for their era.
