Bharatanatyam Classes at Shoonya: Beginner Level
The Bharatanatyam training program for Beginners is taught by Masoom Parmar.
Masoom combines his knowledge of Bharatanatyam and Physiotherapeutic principles to create a curriculum that makes students technically and anatomically aware. Learn Bharatanatyam in an inclusive, safe space through a new pedagogy involving the history of the form, Natyashastra, body conditioning, human anatomy and biomechanics. Classes provide traditional knowledge of Bharatanatyam along with pushing the creative and intellectual boundaries of the students making them 'thinking' dancers.

ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Masoom Parmar is an artiste, curator and arts manager based in Bangalore. He has trained in Bharatanatyam under Late Guru Jayalakshmi Alva, and is currently under the tutelage of Gurus Sri Kiran Subramanyam and Smt Sandhya Kiran. He has also had a brief training in Kathak and Odissi dance, thereby enriching his dance vocabulary. His dance is a fine amalgamation of these styles. He aspires to create work that is honest, relevant and in step with the times now.His current research focuses on voices of relatively unknown poetesses in the Indian subcontinent. As a curator, he looks at tradition with a modern mind, to explore the past to create a new, imaginative future. A gifted linguist with formidable interpersonal skills, Masoom has an uncanny ability to track down and build amiable professional relationships with dancers and art connoisseurs. This high level of operation has ensured him a budding future in the arts management scene.
