Join Banff Sizzler's on Tuesday, December 2, for a night of stand-up comedy with some of Alberta's finest comedians! The show is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. It will likely wrap up long after your kiddo’s bedtime, so please, don’t bring them. The comedians do not want to be responsible for them growing up faster than they need.
The night of uncomfortable and awkward laughter will feature an amazing line-up of talent from near and far, including:
Banff's Funniest Australian: Gene Keenan
Gene is a newer performer in the stand-up comedy scene, but man, is he making up for lost time! With only a little over two years of experience under his belt, he describes his humour as "very immature" and "stupid." Don't let his modesty fool you, though; it's actually "very" stupid."
In his brief time performing as a comedian, he has already been seen hitting stages such as Yuk Yuk's and opening for the incredibly talented Chris Franklin. Where Gene takes his comedy career next is anybody's guess, but you can bet he'll be having a fun time wherever he ends up. Sorry, a "very" fun time.
Your Future Red Deer Step-Dad if Your Mom Doesn't Smarten Up: Jesse Gettis
Jesse is a stand-up comedian who brings his unique blend of self-deprecating charm to stages everywhere. With a delivery that’s equal parts vulnerable and hilarious, he shares stories of attempting to become an adult after divorce, and trying (and failing miserably) at being an Alpha Male with delightfully scurrilous results. Whether he's unpacking his valiant attempts at masculinity or trying to understand how his Dad believes in aliens and flat earth at the same time, Jesse takes the uncomfortable and makes it silly.
Having opened for comedy headliners Mayce Galoni, Howie Miller and Simon King, his ability to turn personal anguish into joy for others with man-ish charm makes him a crowd favourite wherever he goes. Come check him out on stage at Banff Sizzler's or risk seeing him in your home, making your mom feel so safe and comfortable in his arms.
Alberta's “Bad Boy of Christian Comedy” and Aged-Out Sick-Kid: Luke Walls
Luke Walls was raised in Red Deer and has split his time in comedy in Alberta, Toronto, Los Angeles and New York City. Through his clever writing, Luke approaches dark subjects, as well as his own quirks and diagnoses, from his sheltered background with the help of his law school education, resulting in an act that has had him dubbed the "Bad Boy of Christian Comedy".
Luke has regularly performed at the Hollywood Improv, The Comedy Store and Yuk Yuks across Canada. He has opened for Francis Ellis of Barstool Sports, Jiaoying Summers and Big Jay Oakerson of the Legion of Skanks, to name a few. As a former Roast Battle Champion at The Comedy Store, we can promise you that although he is back on Canadian soil, he hasn't lost his insatiable thirst for his opponents' tears.
Edmonton's Aspiring Cougar Comedian: Erin MK Hill
Erin MK Hill has been performing stand-up comedy for years nationwide and abroad, but has been a smartass since birth. Using sharp wit in her writing style and performance, she credits the fact that she wasn't allowed to watch Seinfeld growing up, but was encouraged to watch Fraser. Other comedians have described her as “a rare sight; meeting a woman who would intimidate ISIS,” and having “strong mob-boss wife energy.”
Having opened for the Dark Queen of comedy herself, Adrienne Iapalucci, Erin can also be found performing at Yuk Yuk's, The Comic Strip, Grindstone Theatre, Comedy Underground, Comedy After Dark, The Laugh Shop, and on several comedy festivals across Canada.
