The Angus Irvine Playing Fields Fund was founded by Angus Irvine at the time of the 2012 Olympics, prompted by the failure of this event to provide the promised legacy for grass-roots sport.
Without playing fields there can be no sport, yet the number of playing fields across the UK has halved in the last 60 years, and continues to decline.
The AIPFF was originally founded to address this issue and continues to do so. We have recently expanded further, providing grants to underfunded and over-looked inner-city projects, helping vulnerable children have access to playing fields and grass-root sport.
Supporting grass-root sports could not be more crucial following the year of Covid-19, which has hugely impacted the mental health of the young who benefit from being able to access playing fields.
Why are playing fields important? We believe that outdoor sport, particularly team sport, is vital both to the social health (join teams, not gangs), and to the physical health of our young people (the obesity problem). This particularly applies in disadvantaged areas of the country, and in supporting playing fields we are helping to address two major social problems of our era.
