Word 2013 – Essentials

This class is for City of Baltimore employees only.

Word processing is the use of the computer to create, revise, and save documents for printing and future retrieval. Microsoft Word 2013 is a proven and powerful word processing application. This course will provide participants with the basic concepts required to produce common business documents as well as provide the opportunity to apply them.

Learning Objectives:  Upon completion of this course, participants will:


Open and Close Word files

Understand the interface, including the ribbon, the status bar, and the Backstage view

Create and save documents

Insert and work with text, symbols and numbers

Perform basic editing tasks

Format fonts, including type, size, color, enhancements, and case

Format paragraphs, including spacing, alignment, indents, tabs, bullets, and numbering

Use more advanced formatting, including paragraph dialog boxes

Use Styles and Themes

Format the document

Preview, print, share, or email document



Target Audience:       Any City Employee

Prerequisite:              Basic fluency with Microsoft Office or Introduction to Personal Computers

Time:                         9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Location:                   City of Baltimore Learning Center

                                  7 E. Redwood Street / 15th Floor / Adams Computer Lab

Price:                         $185 per person


DHR L&D Cancellation Policy

Upon confirmation of enrollment, employees should note the date(s), time(s) and location of the training class(s) on their personal calendars and make every effort to attend as scheduled. Employees should be considerate and understand that by failing to attend a class as scheduled, they limit another employee who may have been able to attend. Any request to cancel a registration needs to be received at least three working days prior to the scheduled class date. If notification is not received at least three working days prior to the class start date, or the applicant does not show up for class, the applicant will be considered a "no-show". The agency will be charged for the full amount and no credit or refund will be issued. DHR Learning & Development Division reserves the right to cancel a class if the number of registrations received is such that it would make it cost prohibitive to conduct the class.
