We’re excited to host our second annual Smoke-Off this year with a few exciting twists! We’re combining it with the classic Hoof & Shell event to bring you the best of both worlds: competition-level BBQ from our Smoke-Off contestants plus five bushels of oysters provided by Mark the Oyster Guy. All of this will be happening during the Ravens vs. Browns (Away) afternoon game, making for a perfect Sunday celebration.
We also picked this date to kick off the Friendsgiving season before most gatherings begin and hopefully you're free, so come hang out with your friends, family, and St. Gerard's brothers for what’s sure to be an epic day of food, football, and fun.
Smoke-Off Competition
So far, five contestants have confirmed, and we’re hoping to add a few more!
Each contestant will prepare one BBQ entrée and one side (or a dessert in place of a side). Both dishes will be voted on by attendees, and the three winners will be announced just before kickoff at 4:25 PM while the feasting continues.

Arrival: Contestants should arrive by 1:00 PM (during the early NFL games).
Serving Time: Have food ready to serve by 2:00 PM when the event begins.
Setup Needs: If you need aluminum food pans, frames, or Sternos for warming food, coordinate with Joe in advance. The same goes for any crockpots or plug-in equipment you're bringing.
Oysters, BBQ, and More
While the Smoke-Off is underway, Mark the Oyster Guy will set up between 3:30 PM and kickoff. He’ll start serving oysters as the Ravens game begins, and again, it's all-you-can-eat! Please tip him!
Adding to the feast, John Gustin will be roasting a whole pig for the competition while helping run the event, and there maybe other contestants with just as much food, making this one of our biggest and best events yet. Invite friends, family, and anyone who loves great food (with big appetites) and football.
Admission: $30 per person for all-you-can-eat BBQ, oysters, and sides.
Drinks: Regular bar prices, served by members not actively cooking or competing.
Football All Day
After the Ravens game, stick around for the Sunday Night Football matchup between the Eagles (6–2) and Lions (5–3), two top NFC teams battling for playoff position.
