His bestselling 2018 book Why Liberalism Failed has been translated into over 20 languages and was recommended by former President Barack Obama. The annual Carroll Lecture is given in honor of John Carroll, first bishop in the United States, who called upon the Society of Saint Sulpice to come to Baltimore and open the first Roman Catholic seminary in the new nation in 1791.
In Why Liberalism Failed, Dr. Deneen argues that the principles of liberalism have caused societal fragmentation and the erosion of communal bonds. His scholarship often explores the philosophical underpinnings of modern political thought and advocates for more traditional and localized forms of governance. His 2023 book, Regime Change: Towards a Postliberal Future, extends his critique of liberalism and develops a broader view of a postliberal politics.
These books will be available for purchase. Dr. Deneen will sign copies.
