                "description": "Amy Wheeler, Ph.D is the Chair of the Dept of Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda at Notre Dame of Maryland University, School of Integrative Health. Amy helped to set standards for Ayurvedic Yoga Therapists at NAMA (National Ayurvedic Medical Association).  She served as the President of the Board of Directors for the International Association of Yoga Therapist (IAYT) from 2018-2020. Amy was  also a Professor of Kinesiology at California State University, San Bernardino for 25 years. Amy's degrees include a B.A. and M.A. in Health Promotion, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology.  Amy has extensive Yoga training in the Krishnamacharya Tradition and was certified as a Yoga Teacher, a Yoga Teacher Trainer and Yoga Therapist.Marlysa Sullivan is a physical therapist, yoga therapist/teacher, and author. She works in interdisciplinary pain care and serves as the national yoga and meditation clinical champion with the integrative health coordinating center where she created and leads the national yoga teacher training within the Veterans Health Administration. She is the author of Understanding Yoga Therapy: Applied Philosophy and Science for Health and Well-being and Yoga and Science in Pain Care as well as the new book with Amy Wheeler, Applying Therapeutic Yoga in Integrative Health. She is involved in research and has authored peer-reviewed articles on the neurophysiological and philosophical framework for yoga with a focus on pain and co-occurring PTSD as well as in clinical populations including chronic pain, low back pain, osteoarthritis, and cognitive decline/dementia. Her passion is in the integration of philosophical perspectives on values, purpose and meaning with neurophysiological and whole person frameworks to support optimal well-being and thriving."
