He was the founder of Tropos Press (1976-2001), one of the region’s earliest independent literary presses, as well as the literary magazine THE PEARL (1980-2001). He is the author of seven books of poetry, most recently Afters (Bowerbox Press, 2024) and On Down the Line (UnCollected Press, 2026), which features a 30-year selection of his work. David’s poem “Annunciation” was selected for inclusion in The Best American Poetry 2025. His Substack newsletter, NY Poets :: IOU, has featured conversations with poets Elinor Nauen, Michael Lally, Maureen Owen, and Tony Towle, among others.Eleanor Lewis is a poet and former co-editor of the Baltimore literary magazine, THE PEARL.
