For small homeschool groups or individual homeschool families, we offer special Homeschool Days throughout the school year.* 

Throughout the day, engage in educational programing focused on history with activities including story time, tours, and workshops. Homeschool Days are special days for homeschool students to experience field trips at the B&O!   

Lunch options for Homeschool Day are available at the B&O Café by pre-order or walk-in. 

*Pre-registration is required for Homeschool Day and all activities are first come, first serve 

 

Schedule:  

"Design a Safe Community” Workshop 

Thursday, June 11, 2026 @ 10:30  

In this workshop, students will discover what a community needs to keep its residents safe by designing a safe community layout using 2D and 3D objects. 
 
*Recommended for PreK-2 

 

“The B&O Goes Bananas: The Journey from Trees to Our Tables” Tour 

Thursday, June 11, 2026 @ 10:30 

On this tour, we will learn about different train cars and how they might be used on a freight train. Throughout the tour, we will trace the shipment of bananas on the railroad, just like the B&O did for many years.

Mile One Express Train Ride 

Thursday, June 11, 2026 @ 11:00 am 

An essential part of the B&O Railroad Museum experience, our Mile One Express Train Ride gives the visitors the chance to take a train ride along the nation’s first mile of commercial railroad! Tickets for the train ride can be purchased on-site here at the Museum.

“Morse Code on the B&O Railroad” Workshop 

Thursday, June 11, 2025 @ 2:00 pm  

In this workshop, students will learn all about the B&O Railroads connection to the telegraph, practice using Morse Code and make a take-home bracelet spelling their name in Morse Code. 
*Recommended for ages 2+ 

 

“The Underground Railroad: A Path to Freedom” Tour 

Thursday, June 11, 2026 @ 2:30 pm 

On this tour, we will learn about the connections the B&O Railroad has to the Underground Railroad thorugh our historic rolling stock and our exhibition The Underground Railroad: Freedom Seekers on the B&O.
