The Black Mill, led by Chelsea Brown, is a strategy firm that partners with Black-led nonprofits, foundations, and social impact leaders to build equitable, sustainable, and fundable organizations. The Black Mill focuses on external relations, grant support, and non-profit growth through educational experiences, interdisciplinary cohorts, and individualized support.
Since 2021, we have provided the following outcomes:
- We’ve helped Black-led and grassroots nonprofits secure and manage over $4 million in grant funding in Maryland, North Carolina, California, and New York.
- Coached and presented over 500 nonprofit leaders and funders through funding-readiness experiences through the Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals, African-American Development Officers Network, and Association of Fundraising Professionals DC.
- Facilitated partnerships with leading institutions like Revolve Fund, Visit Baltimore, National African-American Insurance Association, Giving Tuesday, and the Center for Nonprofit Advancement to lead capacity-building initiatives, board development/training, grantmaking design, and access to capital and resources for Black-led and small, grassroots nonprofits.
- Designed bold convenings and workshops that center trust-based philanthropy, access, and narrative power on giving trends, intergenerational nonprofit workforce, individual giving, sponsorship, partnerships, and more.
