Two-time GRAMMY® Award winners Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer join forces with renowned Chinese hammered dulcimer (yangqin) player Chao Tian for an extraordinary evening of music that crosses cultures and continents. Together they explore the resonances between Appalachian traditions and Chinese classical music, weaving in songs and sounds from around the world on banjos, ukulele, guitar, mandolin, dumbek, and yangqin.
The result is a concert that is both intimate and expansive where a Chinese lullaby meets Appalachian fiddle tunes, and melodies from around the world are reimagined. Audiences are drawn into a spellbinding journey that proves, as one presenter put it, “music knows no boundaries.”
Critics and audiences alike have been captivated:
“Electrifying chemistry… it truly felt like being in the presence of magic.” – Piedmont Arts
“Captivating, sublime, and vastly entertaining.” – Hill Center DC
“The seamlessness of their musical and cultural vocabularies is remarkable.” – The Bluegrass Situation
Come experience this rare collaboration that celebrates friendship, storytelling, and the universal language of music.
This performance is sponsored by MSAC, the Maryland State Arts Council.
