Visiting from Hawaii Chris has taught and performed in Australia for over 3 decades, both under his own name and earlier as Panjea. His records with the band Panjea have gone platinum in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. He has released over a dozen albums; scored the soundtrack for three films; and collaborated and performed with many other artists. On a stage in front of thousands Chris is the ultimate showman and he is equally comfortable in an intimate setting, sharing songs and stories with humour and presence. He 'wrote the book' on connecting with your audience. There's a spiritual depth to the music of this man, experienced, most perfectly, live. Chris will be joined on the calabash gourd and other percussion by Elliott Orr (aka Splash Gourdon). This 'water drum' will blow your mind - pictured on the banner above. Played in water, this gift of mother nature produces the most powerful acoustic bass note. It provides the perfect accompaniment to the mbira songs of Chris Berry. We are also delighted to announce that Chris will be joined by his original Australian friend and musical buddy Yeshe. Yeshe will join on mbira, hosho and other instruments. Yeshe brings a lifetime of musical journeying to every note he plays and has produced a number of albums in his own right. Peter Hunt, of Kooii, also joins the musical offering of this home concert. Weaving his unique and heartfelt sounds of the voice, guitar and trumpet through the soundscape, Peter will help lift your senses into the ethereal realm. Being a master drummer there will, no doubt, also be a moment of exciting African drumming with Chris, Elliott and Yeshe playing doundouns and djembe. Opportunity to dance!
