Take a journey through 500 years of sacred sound as VOX CALDERA, one of our region's premier chamber ensembles, presents a concert of breathtaking a cappella vocal polyphony. The program centres on Josquin des Prez’s Renaissance masterpiece, the Missa Pange Lingua. Josquin was known as the "Prince of Musicians" in the 16th century, and his work remains a pinnacle of human expression, weaving intricate melodies into a seamless tapestry of devotion.
The program bridges the centuries with Olivier Messiaen’s lush, "stained-glass" harmonies in O Sacrum Convivium! and Clare Maclean’s radiant Et Misericordia. Maclean, a celebrated contemporary voice, blends ancient choral traditions with a modern Australian sensibility, creating a soundscape that is both haunting and transcendent.
