Sinamay is a popular hat-making foundation fabric, woven from processed abaca stalks – a type of banana native to the Philippines. Abaca fibre is stronger than silk or cotton and can last for over 100 years.

In this full-day workshop, you will learn essential millinery techniques including edge rolling and folding, bias cutting, covering a headband, manipulating and steaming Sinamay, and invisible stitching.

You will apply these skills to fashion a variety of decorative bows to be attached to headbands to create an variety of stylish headpieces.

This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and will appeal to skilled sewers interested in expanding their skills, fashionistas, costumiers, those interested in vintage fashion. At the end of the workshop, you will take your completed headpieces home with you.
