A Combined Workshop
DRAMA PRESENTATION BY PAUL HARVEY and
TEACHING LEXICALLY BY ANDREW WALKLEY
The primary aim of the workshops is to develop educational skills of the teachers that are compatible with education policies and to enable teachers to deliver these policies while teaching English as a second language.
Paul Harvey has been a teacher of English for 36 years – for most of that time, in the Middle East and North Africa. He has taught in government schools in Sudan and Saudi Arabia and was director of a summer school in Oxford for ten years. He has been a teacher trainer since 1994 in public and private education and has run workshops for teachers and students across North Africa, the UK, The Middle East and Turkey. He has spoken at numerous conferences in the same area. His first book (for teens) was published by Oxford University Press in 2015. His special interest is in the uses of drama in ELT. He is based in Morocco, where he has lived for twelve years, and teaches at the British Council. He is a CELTA tutor and local tutor for the Cambridge DELTA course.
If introduced sensitively, drama in the EFL classroom can be an enjoyable activity which can liberate the imagination, develop linguistic creativity and bring a group closer together. Drama activities not only make language come to life, there are also a way of practicing pronunciation, developing intonation and rhythm and a way of learning new language. In this session, I would like us to participate in a few activities which, I think, show the extent of the uses of drama in ELT. I would like it to be a practical session, but I promise I won´t ask anyone to do anything they don´t feel comfortable doing!
A Teacher Trainer and a course book writer with over 25 years in English Language teaching.
He has delivered trainings in 30 countries around the world and is currently based in London, UK.
This workshop will introduce you to the ideas behind lexical approaches to teaching. I’ll show you how you can apply these ideas day-to-day in your classrooms to develop your students’ English better and improve their language skills – particularly speaking. Teaching lexically will make you think about your practice, provide you with lots of practical activities and techniques and, I hope, bring a fresh, motivating approach to your classroom.
All the participants will get the international certificate of attendance
Registration: Due to the limited availability of seats, early registration is strongly recommended to ensure your participation. Only a limited number of selected candidates will be accepted to the event.
