"He doesn't stand a chance," mutters the guard as the 12 jurors are taken into the bleak jury room. It looks like an open-and-shut case—until one of the jurors begins opening the others' eyes to the facts. "This is a remarkable thing about democracy," says the foreign-born juror, "that we are notified by mail to come down to this place—and decide on the guilt or innocence of a man; of a man we have not known before. We have nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. We should not make it a personal thing." But personal it does become, with each juror revealing his or her own character as the various testimonies are re-examined, the murder is re-enacted and a new murder threat is born before their eyes! Tempers get short, arguments grow heated, and the jurors become 12 angry people. The jurors' final verdict and how they reach it—in tense scenes that will electrify you and keep you on the edge of your seat. Character Descriptions: Foreman: Late 30s, Los Angeles Accent A small petty person who is impressed with the authority they have. Juror #2: Late 20s - Early 30s, Los Angeles Accent Shy demeanor, initially offering little opinion and agreeing with the majority. Juror #3: 40s or 50s, Los Angeles Accent, The Antagonist Loud, boisterous bully who insists on a guilty verdict, driven by their personal trauma. Juror #4: 40s, Los Angeles Accent Calmest of the bunch and is the more disappointed of the 12 Angry Jurors. Juror #5: Mid 20s (25 years old in some), East Los Angeles Accent The youngest of the bunch who grew up in the slums therefore relating most to the boy. Juror #6: Early 30s (33 years old in the notes), Los Angeles Accent An honest, hardworking house painter who is respectful but mostly stands up for the elderly juror. Juror #7: Mid 40s, Los Angeles Accent Baseball fan who is apathetic towards the case because they have a game to get to. Juror #8: Early 20s - Late 30s, Los Angeles Accent, The Protagonist Juror 8 acts as a mature, calm voice of reason against the, at times, irrational, older, and younger members of the jury. Juror #9: Late 70s - Early 80s, Los Angeles Accent The oldest member of the jury, acting as a gentle, observant, and thoughtful voice who provides crucial insights into the case, particularly regarding the elderly witness. Juror #10: Mid 50s, Los Angeles Accent An antagonist, espouses virulent and hateful racist ideology throughout the play. Juror #11: Early to Mid 40s, Yugoslavian Accent (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia (formerly Macedonia), Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, and Kosovo) An immigrant who deeply appreciates American democracy and justice, having experienced oppression in their home country.
