This is an opportunity to learn about the tremendous work our grads have done in their Fall quarter classes and to highlight their academic achievements thus far in IslandWood's Education for Environment and Community's graduate certificate program, in partnership with the nationally-ranked University of Washington's College of Education's Masters in Education degree program! Come ready to learn, ask questions, and celebrate the growth and learning of our esteemed scholars, educators, and community members!

10:20am- 11:30am- Cultural, and Philosophical Foundations of Education : Dr. Déana Scipio
This class builds understandings of the cultural, social, political, and philosophical foundations of educational theory and individual beliefs about the sociocultural, historical, and political foundations of education in order to provide multiple lenses for analysis and reflection on our society’s collective project of schooling. Grads will be sharing posters and visuals to help them discuss their philosophies of education.

Building relationships to lands and waters here at IslandWood; grounding grads in this place and helping them to locate themselves; developing a relational lens to learning with/in ecological systems; deepening ecological systems thinking.

Integrating Technology & Arts in Teaching and Learning: Focuses on grads developing strong relationships with lands and waters via ArtScience as interconnected and powerful sensemaking practices. Walking these lands and waters, visiting sit spots, and creating an IslandWood specific field guide.
