Dear friends of GALERIE SUPPER,     

With the exhibition PETERSBURG, Galerie Supper looks back on 24 years of exhibition activity. In a large-scale Petersburg-style hanging, artistic positions that have shaped the gallery's program since its founding are brought together on two floors of the gallery space.

The exhibition is less a chronological retrospective than a curatorial distillation. Works from different years enter into a new spatial and visual relationship with one another. The classic Petersburg hanging—historically known from the densely arranged collection presentations at the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg—is used here as a deliberate exhibition device: The wall becomes an image space in which individual works become part of a larger visual structure.
Across several rows, a multi-layered constellation of painting, photography, drawing, and sculpture unfolds. The dense hanging creates a tension between individual works and the overall picture, inviting visitors to explore the exhibition not linearly, but associatively.
The exhibition brings together works by LeeLee Nam, Erwin Olaf, Cindy Sherman, Brixy, René Dantes, Tino Geiss, Rayk Goetze, Andreas Lau, Mike MacKeldey, Roland Schauls, Monika Thiele, Patricia Thoma, Andreas Wachter, Anja Warzecha, and Sebastian Wehrle, among others.
