Seit über 40 Jahren spielt die Matchbox Bluesband traditionellen Blues in vielen Schattierungen. Ausgehend vom klassischen Chicago-Blues enthält das Repertoire auch swingenden Rhythm & Blues, erdigen Down Home Blues und akustische Spielarten. Die langjährige Stabilität der Besetzung hat zu einem äußerst homogenen Gruppensound geführt, der gleichermaßen stilecht, individuell und mitreißend ist. Ein weiteres Markenzeichen sind die häufig eingesetzten mehrstimmigen Backing-Vocals.
Mit Klaus „Mojo“ Kilian (Blues-Louis-Preisträger 2016) an der Bluesharp und Bernd Simon an der Gitarre verfügt die Band über zwei der führenden Solisten des traditionellen Blues in Deutschland, die beide auch ausgezeichnete Sänger sind. Komplettiert wird die Band durch Wolfgang Lieberwirth, Kontrabass/Backing-Vocals und Thomas Frömming, Drums/Backing-Vocals.
