Dogs who have not yet competed in Scent Dog Games must complete the Scent Dog Foundations Title prior to enter Level 1 Games. AGAINST THE ODDS This game is to test a dog/handler team’s ability to search an area without knowing how many hides are present, to help handlers build confidence in their dog’s abilities to search an area and call clear effectively. Within Against the Odds, there will be an odd number of hides within the search area, either 1, 3, or 5. Calling an area clear, distraction work, being observant of in-odor behaviour, working in an area with many converging scents are among the skills needed be successful at this game. ONCE AROUND (Level 1 and Level 2 will be offered) In this challenge game, you are only going around the search area once, a series of boxes and or objects, with multiple scents. In level 1 teams know how many scents they must find. In level 2 the number hides is unknown (4-6 finds). Searching in an area with converging scents, being observant of odor behaviour and calling clear are among the skills needed be successful at this game. CLUSTER ( Level 1 & 2 will be offered) In this challenge game, you are searching clusters of objects and or boxes that are in very close proximity to each other, with multiple scents. In level 1 teams know how many scents they must find. In level 2 the number hides is unknown (4-6 finds). Pinpointing multiple scents which are close together, working with converging scents, and being observant of in-odor behaviour and calling clear are among the skills needed be successful at this game. Hi – LOW Hi-Low challenges teams to locate hides that are placed either high off the ground (2 - 4 feet) or very low to the ground (under 1 foot). In level 1 teams know how many scents they must find. In level 2 the number hides is unknown (4-6 finds) This game emphasizes a dog’s ability to search vertically, and helps handlers better understand how to facilitate and encourage thorough searches across all height ranges. CLEAR IT- (Level 1and Level 2 will be offered) The primary goal of this game is to strengthen a dog/handler team’s ability to search effectively and confidently call clear, emphasizing careful searching, strategic decision-making, and developing trust between the handler and dog. Teams must successfully clear an area before progressing to the next, marking identified hides or distractions along the way DOUBLE OR NOTHING • In this challenge game, you are searching an area that may have 2 scents or none at all, with more distractions ( 4 – 6 distractions). Calling an area clear, being observant of in-odor behaviour, working with high level of distractions are among the skills needed be successful at this game. HIT THE WALL In Hit The Wall, hides will be placed along a solid wall, positioned high or low. The hides may be hidden in non-traditional items such as envelopes or bags. Hides will be placed on a wall in varying heights, from 6 inches up to 3 ½ feet off the ground This game is designed to build the dog’s confidence in searching perimeter areas of a ring, and identify unconventional hide locations. INTRODUCING - SUPER 7 This challenge game is designed to enhance a dog and handler team's speed and accuracy. Participants are to find 7 hides within a total time of 2 minutes, with each hide worth 10 points. Dog handler teams are to search an area and indicate alerts. The judge will verify if an alert is correct or false. If correct, participants can mark the finds or distractions. If false, participants will receive a 10 point deduction. A time penalty of 10 seconds will be incurred for any other fault, such as dropped food. Participants must find all 7 hides in order to qualify. INTRODUCING - DISTANCE In At A Distance, handlers must direct their dogs to search while remaining behind a designated line approximately 10 ft away. This game challenges teams to build strong off-leash communication, trust, and promotes independence as the dog locates hides in a designated area. It emphasizes the dog’s ability to search an area independently, while aiding handlers in how to facilitate and encourage thorough searches from a distance. INTRODUCING - DUO In Duo dog handler teams will work collaborating to locate hides within the search area. . All dogs are required to be on leash. Teams are assigned through a draw on the day of the trial. Teams will be allowed to communicate with one another in the ring, however only one handler may be searching within the ring at a time.
