During the 1800s life in Kilmington was tough, and opportunities were few. Armed with little more than hope and faith, Kilmington’s young abandoned the only life they and their ancestors knew. To escape poverty, they took the bravest of leaps into the unknown to the frontiers of new worlds. Undertaking perilous journeys, they emigrated to the other side of the world, Australia, Canada and the USA.

What made them leave – and did they make the best decisions?
