Bob will describe a 1978 first ascent on Kalanka (6997m) in the Garwhal Himalaya with Allen Fyffe - a classic mountaineering experience in the magnificent and rarely visited Nanda Devi Sanctuary. Their approach followed the footsteps of Tilman and Shipton up the remarkable Rishi Gorge with five porters and a few goats.

In 1983, Bob and Allen climbed in the Garwhal again, making the first ascent of the wonderful and difficult SW Pillar of Bhagirathi III (B3, 6454m) which culminated with a final 14-day push. This will also be described
