Its MORE than a book— as unique as you and your trip are! These pages need not always be a drawing or painted. There are so many ways we can portray the color and vibrancy of your experience. Use local printed materials, cards, ticket stubs, menus, add expressive lettering, use different pens. As we travel I will be providing instruction each day on composing interesting pages, tips on what to focus on, the use of watercolor, lettering, drawing skills, and how to ENJOY the process
Carla Flegel is an internationally recognized artist with 25+ years of teaching experience. Known for her humour and whimsical watercolors, she will inspire you as much as the vibrant color and experience Mexico will offer. On our trip we all will have varied artists with individual skills, focus and experience. You don’t need to be “an artist.” You just need curiosity, a sketchbook, and the willingness to see with fresh eyes. We’ll guide you with tips on watercolor washes, pen line work, creative lettering, and journaling prompts to help you turn everyday moments into lasting travel treasures. Each day I will be ‘teaching’ encouraging, and demonstrating these techniques to embellish your journal, expand your painting skills, and tips to draw those incredible ancient churches. Before our trip I will be sending out preliminary information to get us started. If you do not have a portable ‘urbansketching’ kit I have kits available on this website.
Sketching and writing calms the mind and sharpens the eye. It locks memories into your brain in a deeper, more lasting way than snapping a photo. Years later, your journal will bring you right back to that moment—what you saw, heard, smelled, and felt

We will be hosted by Flip Flop Nomad tours. A well established tour company based in Melaque MX. They offer multi day and single day tours throughout Mexico. We will have a bilingual guide on board and will meet with knowledgeable local guides. The terrain we will travel is mostly in towns so not physically difficult. The hotels we stay in are unique upscale Mexican experiences with great Breakfasts.
