Workshop Description: Many of us find ourselves in the position of caretaker. We take care of children, our parents, our neighbors and our friends, but we are often exhausted at the end of the day. We may struggle to take care of ourselves. We may even feel lost. We question who we are while also trying to be the best for everyone around us. In this two-day workshop, teaching artists Rob and Amy Crowl will engage participants in the creative processes of writing and theatre-making to explore different ways to answer the questions that truly matter- Who are we? Why does our work matter? What do we have to offer the world? Participants will be empowered to express themselves and their own personal literacies through narrative, poetry, movement and improvisation with the hopes that we emerge with a new sense of the richness of the life within us.
Day 1 (August 2, 1:00-5:00): Literary Tapas: Genre Tasting, Sensory Immersion, & Writing the Main Course (Facilitators: Rob and Amy Crowl)
Day 2 (August 3, 1:00-5:00): Theater Making… (Facilitators: Rob and Amy Crowl)
About us:
Amy Crowl (she/her) is a multidisciplinary theatre artist and teacher who seeks to deepen relationships with students and activate their creative potential through the process of performance. She is a high school IB Theatre Teacher, Director, and Performer who finds that when her soul is wilting, creativity can be rejuvenating. As a "neurospicy" adult and a working mom of twins, she is looking forward to engaging with other caretakers in helping them find their creative voice (again).
Rob Crowl is a professor of composition, literary studies, and creative writing at Austin Community College, and he’s also taught at Concordia University of Texas, Meridian World School, and in various public schools in the Austin, Texas area for over 15 years. He focuses on helping reluctant artists tell the stories only they can tell by empowering them to play with existing literacies and by helping them to innovate classical and contemporary creative techniques. For the last 25 years, Rob’s also been a writer, musician, and performing artist which has kept him curious and unfinished.
