Texas Day at the Capitol
A Charge to Keep A Call to Action
Greeting Brothers of TCAC,
General President Ward says, “We must leverage our collective talents and strengths to respond to the unrelenting attacks that threaten both our rights and our lives.” The Texas Day at the Capitol is February 25, 2018. This year theme is “Taking Action Today to Change Tomorrow.” This event is free, but there is a cost for advocacy, leadership, and service around issues that are critical to our communities.
Texas Day at the Capitol has been designed to deliberately meet the needs of our community through active and impactful engagement. The Texas legislature meets biannually for 140 days to pass policies that will govern the laws of our great state. If we are not at the table we will be on the menu. I am imploring 200+ brothers to meet in Austin! We must leverage our collective talents and strengths to respond to the unrelenting attacks that threaten both our rights and our lives. Schedule meetings with your representative. In those meetings outline the things needed to help our communities, schools, people, etc. to flourish.
This past year, Texas Council of Alpha Chapters has been deeply involved and engaged in voter registration, voter education, and voter engagement activities under our national program, “A Voteless People Is A Hopeless People” as well as our “First of All, We Vote” initiative. The Texas Day at the Capitol is a culmination of those events to hold accountable the very same people that we have elected.
Our mission statement states…Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy for our communities. The Urgency of Now stresses that we come together again February 25, 2018. We are asking brothers to register via the Eventbrite link so you can be in that number as the Alphas go marching in!
