- **Event Start and End Date**: Mon, 31 Aug, 2026 at 05:00 pm – Mon, 31 Aug, 2026 at 10:30 pm (-05:00)
- **Event Description**: One Is Too Many is a powerful memorial initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the opioid overdose crisis through music, community, and compassionate advocacy—especially amplifying the voices of musicians and families directly impacted by overdose loss. Founded by Phil Owen and Jacy Planta after the devastating loss of their son, Cash Owen, to a fentanyl poisoning event, the initiative was born from unimaginable grief and transformed into a mission to save lives and create connection. Cash was full of life, creativity, ambition, and endless potential when he was taken far too soon, and it is his story, spirit, and memory that remain at the heart of One Is Too Many. Through the organization’s online memorial platform, individuals from around the world can honor loved ones by virtually lighting an eternal flame and sharing personal memories, creating a lasting space for remembrance and healing. Beyond memorialization, One Is Too Many is deeply committed to supporting those navigating grief and loss by providing access to harm reduction, prevention, recovery, suicide prevention, and family support resources. We believe connection and compassion save lives, and that “tough love” is not the answer when someone is struggling. On August 31, One Is Too Many will host an International Overdose Awareness Day event at Come and Take It Live in Austin, Texas, from 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM. The event will feature an incredible lineup of live musicians, DJs, vendors, food trucks, community organizations, and advocates coming together for an unforgettable evening of awareness, remembrance, and hope. A special candlelight vigil will take place during the event to honor all those who left us too soon and to stand in solidarity with the families and communities forever impacted by overdose loss. We are currently seeking sponsors, vendors, and community partners who want to stand with us in creating meaningful impact and honoring every life lost too soon—because one is too many.
