Expressive Arts Collective for Psychotherapists
The Expressive Arts can help us deeply experience our own therapeutic process, and clients appreciate it when I bring poetry, film, and music/videos into our work - sometimes as a motif, sometimes more directly. I want to broaden and deepen this collection, and build an archive of poems, films, and music to bring into psychotherapy.
The group will meet monthly on the first Friday of the month from 1-3 pm in my office at 2525 Wallingwood Drive, Bldg 9, Suite 901. The cost is $30 per person for each 2-hour monthly group meeting on the first Friday from Sept 2018 to January 2019, and participants sign up for the entire Fall semester. To reserve a spot, please purchase a one ticket for 5 sessions @ $30 each for a total of $150. (There will be another session in the Spring (5 sessions, Feb to June, $150.) The dates for 2018-2019 are below. Contact Jinji Willingham at www.stageoflifecounseling.com or aW5mbyB8IHN0YWdlb2ZsaWZlY291bnNlbGluZyAhIGNvbQ== if you have any questions. This is an ongoing group limited to 12 people. What we’ll do: In addition to gathering & sharing a collection of therapeutic arts, we’ll read poems/quotes, watch movies (and some dance), and listen to songs together - to nourish ourselves, gather supportive resources to share with clients, and build community. Beginning in September, we’ll meet on the first Friday of each month to focus on one of the healing arts. For example, we’ll each bring in 2-3 poems to share with the group during the first meeting. For the second month we’ll bring in lists of films to share with clients, and watch one (the we choose ahead of time) at our second meeting. In similar fashion, we’ll focus on music for our third meeting, and explore dance in our fourth meeting as a trailhead into therapeutic experience. The group will be collaborative but will begin with some practical parameters and a guiding therapeutic orientation focused on relational, attachment, systemic, intergenerational, social justice, socio-cultural, and existential matters.
