Just in time for the Jewish festival of Purim comes a Gilbert and Sullivan-inspired musical of the Book of Esther. With music selections from Pirates of Penzance, the Mikado, Ruddigore, HMS Pinafore and Princess Ida, the original libretto tells the story of how the lovely Esther and her uncle Mordecai foil the plans for the destruction of the Jews of Persia by the dastardly Haman.
Coming a few days before the megillah reading, the performance provides an opportunity for the entire Austin Jewish community to come together to celebrate. It will also provide outreach to the Austin community, including those who love all things Gilbert & Sullivan and those who love all things biblical.
Proceeds from the performance will benefit Congregation Agudas Achim.
