Inspired in part by the music and landscape of his native Bohemia, it is a joyful and expressive piece that has long been a favorite of audiences around the world. The program also introduces audiences to the music of Louise Farrenc, a talented 19th-century French composer whose work is receiving renewed attention today. Farrenc was a respected pianist and teacher during her lifetime, yet her compositions were largely overlooked for many years.
