The Aotearoa Centre for Leadership and Governance and ALTeR invites you to an interactive panel event to discuss the role of governance in AI adoption and integration in New Zealand organisations. Led by a panel of academic and industry experts, the event will untangle some of the tensions and dilemmas around AI use, providing leaders and professionals with tips on how to lead AI and increase their governance-readiness in the evolving business landscape that is driven by AI. This public event is for anyone navigating the AI shift: business leaders and governance professionals charting the path forward, and the students, academics, and employees who will be shaping and living with the decisions being made today. Our panel will share their views on how best to navigate the tension between possibility and value – and what role governance plays in leading AI effectively for their businesses and their people. A former lawyer with over 20 years’ experience supporting clients with solutions to complex privacy and technology law issues, Frith has designed and implemented privacy and AI governance frameworks for a range of clients across the private and public sectors. She is a member of the IAPP’s AI Governance Centre global advisory board and a past member of the Government Chief Digital Officer’s AI Expert Advisory Panel and the AI Forum NZ Executive Council from 2019 to 2025.Scott McLiver is Partner and Chief AI Officer at PwC New Zealand, and has spearheaded the rollout of AI across Asia Pacific for PwC. He is a leader in the field of emerging technology, serving as a member of PwC’s Global AI Council, as Asia Pacific AI leader, and leader of the OpenAI relationship for PwC across Asia Pacific. Scott has collaborated with a wide variety of businesses including large corporates and multinationals, and leading private enterprises. He works closely with boards and senior leadership teams across Asia Pacific to understand how AI capabilities can enhance their value proposition to customers and employees.Candace Kinser is an experienced director, technology executive and governance leader with a strong track record across New Zealand’s innovation, science and technology sectors. She has served on numerous commercial, Crown, listed and not-for-profit boards, including the University of Auckland Council, Livestock Improvement Corporation, Eastland Group, Plant & Food Research and Callaghan Innovation, and has chaired organisations including Helius Therapeutics and the Cancer Society Auckland Northland. She brings a practical boardroom perspective on adopting emerging technologies while balancing risk, value and long-term impact. She is currently standing as the National Party candidate for Auckland Central.Matt Ensor is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Auckland and a leading New Zealand voice on practical AI adoption and governance. He also chairs the AI Forum New Zealand’s Generative AI Working Group and facilitates AI governance education for the Institute of Directors, helping boards and leadership teams use AI in ways that are valuable, proportionate and defensible when being wrong matters.Alexandra Andhov is the inaugural Chair in Law and Technology and Director of the Centre for Advancing Law and Technology Responsibly (ALTeR) at the University of Auckland. An internationally recognised expert in corporate and capital markets law, her research focuses on the regulation of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and blockchain. She has published extensively in leading international law journals and is an award-winning educator, researcher and advisor with strong connections to the European and Nordic start-up ecosystem.Chair: Brigid Carroll is Director of the Aotearoa Centre for Leadership and Governance and holds the Fletcher Building Employee Educational Fund Chair in Leadership at the University of Auckland. Her work focuses on leadership, governance and organisational development, with extensive experience designing and delivering leadership programmes across the corporate, community, professional and youth sectors. Brigid’s research and practice specialise in collaborative leadership, leadership identity, adaptive governance, and cross-sector collaboration to address complex challenges.
