Come join Volcanic City Rollers for our next rookie intake! 🌋
Starting February 22nd, our next rookie course will run for three months with two training sessions each week:
- Sundays: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at The Trusts Arena, Henderson (usually, though sometimes this changes to 1pm-3pm training at Y gym Massey- we will let you know which Sundays)
- Wednesdays: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Activzone, Glenfield
Following our initial session on the 22nd we will have a ‘meet the league’ hang out and question session at the local plant barn cafe from 12pm-1pm
We encourage you to attend as many sessions as possible over the 3 months to ensure you are able to develop the skills you need to join the team on the track.
Gear Hire and Fees:
At your first session at The Trusts Arena, you can hire gear for a $50 fee plus a $50 refundable bond. Gear hire is extremely limited at Activzone, so we recommend attending your first session at the trusts or contacting us to make other arrangements. Monthly course fees are $35.
Schedule;
🛼 Sunday 22nd Feb - 10am-12pm The first rookie session at the Trusts! Pick up your hire gear that you will use for the season and join us at the plant barn cafe 12pm-1pm
🛼 Wednesday 25th Feb- 7pm-9pm start consolidating your skills at your first Activzone practice.
🛼 Saturday 28th Feb - VCR has our first game of the year! Come along to watch our B team, Ignite, take on Bridge City Rollers at Y Massey Gym 1.15pm - 3.45pm, entrance fees go to supporting the charity Inside Out. A great way to see what it's all about! Follow our socials (links below) for info.
🛼 Sunday 1st March 10am- 3pm, Trusts Arena. Normal training is cancelled, in its place Brad Pitstop, our fantastic head referee, and friends are running a ref and NSO (non skating official) clinic. The cost is $15, and this a fantastic opportunity to learn the rules of roller derby and find out how you could become a ref or NSO. More information here;

🛼 Wednesday 4th March - 7pm-9pm Normal rookie +league training at activzone.
🛼 Sunday 8th March - 10am-12pm, the Trusts arena. An opportunity for those who can't make the rookie initial session on the 22nd to join us for a make-up session and pick up their gear and have another social session at the plant barn 12pm-1pm where we can discuss your progress and goals.
Normal Sunday & Wednesday rookie+league training then continues.
The aim of this course is for you to build the skills that enable you to play in a rookie graduation game and then join the team as a full league skater!
