- **Event Description**: Explore Hobson Bay (launching from Te Tinana/Wilson's Beach) by kayak and discover what makes this bay special and how we can look after it.About this EventJoin Mountains to Sea for a day kayaking at Hobson Bay, launching from Te Tinana/Wilson's beach with the awesome crew from Auckland Sea Kayaks and Hapua Thrive!Hear about the importance of waterway protection and observe nature. You will be guided around the inlet, getting a new perspective on the surrounding environment. There will be a chance for experienced kayakers to clean up plastic while we paddle. We will also be running activities on land, including a freshwater workshop and guided walk with the Mountains to Sea crew to fully immerse yourself in connecting with te taiao. Fun for the whole whānau!Saturday 29th November⌚️12.30pm - 4.30pmPlease arrive 10-15 minutes prior to check in at the tent. If you are running late please text Sophie on 0210645125.? On the Water – Explore Hobson Bay by kayak with Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust and Auckland Sea Kayaks. There will be a talk on signs of estuarine health and how it connects to the wider harbour and ecosystem. There will be equipment provided for those who want to collect rubbish from the water as we kayak - give back while enjoying being on the water!? On the Land – After your paddle spend some time with Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust and the Hapua Thrive to learn more about our local freshwater and how we can play our part in looking after our waterways and harbours.? Weather call -Sea conditions permitting - we will run with light rain. A final weather call will be made the afternoon prior to the event. A back up location may be used. Cancellation due to weather will be communicated via email or Eventbrite.? Registrations -Registrations will be open to locals first via an access code, if you live in the Ōrākei/Waitemata area please email sophie@mountainstosea.org.nz  with your suburb to gain the access code. Registrations will open to the general public on 21st November. Children younger than 7 will not be able to participate in the kayaking activity.Children aged 7 - 13 need to have a confident adult in the back of their kayak. Children under 16 need an adult companion.Swimming ability recommended, please indicate your kayaking experince via registration. Clean up equipment will only be given to those who have kayaked previously.Please note that the maximum weight for the sea kayaks is 120kg per person.Expect to spend 1hr kayaking.What to bring -Clothing suitable for kayaking (no jeans please)Footwear you do not mind getting wet and muddyWater bottleRain coatHat, sunglasses and sunblockWhat will be provided -Double sit on top kayaksPFDPaddleH&amp;S equipmentKayak instructorsRubbish pickers, gloves and bags.? Where -Te Tinana/Wilson's Beach - Remuera.Accessibility:Please note there is easy acesses to the registration tent via car and pathways. The on land workshop and guided walk will requre moving up and down stairs. The kayak launching point is flat and beach based. There are no public toilets but we will have a unisex camping toilet onsite for use. Kayaks are 2 seater. Both participants paddle, this is 2 handed, please let crew know if you need adjustments.? Donations -Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust runs a series of free and subsidised events over the summer months — we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event.❌ Cancellation policy -Please cancel your spot via Eventbrite ASAP if you can no longer make it. If you give less than 24 hrs notice when cancelling your registration or you no show without a valid excuse (i.e COVID, or other illness/emergency) then you may be sent an invoice of $20 per person. This is to ensure spaces do not go to waste and that people do not miss out on attending this free event.
