Mundi are excited to be performing once again in Tāmaki Makaurau with an abundance of new music to dance to and with West African drum and dance ensemble Kra To Ko Kra to open!
Filled with joy and exuberant energy, Mundi has captured hearts across the land and far-flung seas, touring and performing extensively. Just some of the events include Newtown Festival, Festival of Lights (New Plymouth) Christchurch Arts Festival and TEDX. They have also been involved in collaborations with Pub Choir in the Christchurch Town Hall and internationally renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Marlon Williams as part of Yo-Yo Ma's Bach Project. Mundi opened for legendary Chilean musician Nano Stern in April of this year and celebrated a 20 day regional tour in February, and Nelson and Wellington in May. A new single has been released on the 31st May with more to follow this year.
Mundi comprises Brazilian percussionist Ricardo Stuani, guitarist and dancer Chris Dabinett, bassist Mike Story and flautist, vocalist, percussionist, dancer and composer Tamara Smith.
Mundi’s performances are mesmerizing- weaving together the two oldest instruments in human’s history – flutes and percussion- into a sizzling array of duelling Brazilian/African percussion with hypnotic guitar, pulsing bass and vocal melodies soaring above and interlaces stories through music of our interactions with nature and ourselves.
With dances choreographed by Tamara intertwined, these exciting new compositions lure people into an ancient memory of the pulse of life and awaken our dancing selves lurking beneath..
