Heroic resisters to the occupation of Jersey Isle by German military forces during World War II, they were imprisoned and sentenced to death. Award-winning filmmaker Barbara Hammer infuses this film with vigour using photographs, archival footage, dramatic interludes of a “found Cahun script”, and unique interviews of Jersey residents who knew the “sisters.”This screening will be followed by a panel discussion in partnership with Whānau Marama New Zealand International Film Festival, bringing together contemporary artists Casey Carsel, Tony Guo, Prairie Hatchard-McGill and Aliyah Winter to explore the lineages of queer creative practice.
