- **Event Description**: Explore Tāmaki Estuary with experienced kayak guides then help clean up rubbish!About this EventCome join the Tāmaki Estuary Protection Society and Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust to explore the Tāmaki Estuary in partnership Auckland Sea Kayaks.Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust is exploring Glendowie Stream for whitebait spawning - learn about these native fish and how they travel through Tāmaki River into Glendowie Stream and back again!Tāmaki Estuary Protection Society will run a hands-on litter clean up, where you can explore the estuarine coastline and help remove damaging rubbish.This event is generously funded by Auckland Council.Sunday 3rd May 2026⌚️9:00am - 12.00pmPlease arrive at least 15mins prior to event start and check in at the tent. If you are running late please call 02102471893.Please wear suitable outdoor shoes such as sneakers. No jandals and bare feet allowed, as we will be walking through muddy and uneven terrain.🚣 On the Awa – Explore Tāmaki Estuary by kayak with Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust and Auckland Sea Kayaks. Learn about waterway protection, observe local wildlife, and hear about the Glendowie Īnanga Spawning Project.🌿 On the Land – After exploring on kayak, join Tāmaki Estuary Protection Society for a coastline litter clean up and give back to your local natural environment.🌞 Weather call -Sea conditions permitting - we will run with light rain. A final weather call will be made the afternoon prior to the event. Cancellation due to weather will be communicated via email and Eventbrite.🎟 Registrations -Registrations are essential, and spots are limited.Children younger than 7 will not be able to participate in the kayaking activity but all ages are welcome to participate in the litter clean up.Children aged 7-13 need to have a confident adult over 18 in the back of their kayak. Children under 16 need an adult companion.Swimming ability is required for the kayaking activity.Please note that the maximum weight for the sea kayaks is 120kg per person.Please only register for the kayaking if you can commit to the full 3hr timeslot, expect to spend 1hr kayaking and 1hr doing litter cleanup.Early access codes for residents in the Ōrākei Local Board area will be circulated to local pages or email anastasia@mountainstosea.org.nz to access (please reference the suburb you live in). Otherwise all remaining tickets will go live on Monday 26th April.What to bring -You must wear suitable closed-toed footwear such as sneakers. No jandals, crocs or soft shoes allowed. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event.❌ Cancellation policy -If you give less than 24 hrs notice when cancelling your registration or you no show without a valid excuse (i.e COVID, or other illness/emergency) then you may be sent an invoice of $20 per person. This is to ensure spaces do not go to waste and that people do not miss out on attending this free event.
