The event is for all secondary students (year 10+) who have an interest in learning more about jazz performance and getting a chance to meet and play with other talented students from all over Aotearoa. We also welcome music educators who want to upskill in jazz pedagogy to participate as well.Fee: $99Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships are available. If you wish to apply, please email a 250-word letter explaining why you want to participate in the Jazz Academy, plus a short letter of recommendation from your music teacher to jazz Kaikotuitui (coordinator) Keith Price (keith.price@auckland.ac.nz).In-Person Sessions:Friday, October 2nd (evening)Saturday, October 3rd (all day)Sunday, October 4th (all day & evening concert for whānau and friends)Online Prep Sessions:Monday, September 21th (7:00pm-8:30pm, Jazz Theory)Monday, September 28nd (7:00pm-8:30pm, Jazz History)Key Information:• For auditions (for the purpose of band placement), students should prepare one jazz blues head (your choice of key centre) and a 24-bar improvised solo.• We recommend bringing a packed lunch on Saturday and Sunday, as options to purchase lunch are limited on weekends in the CBD. Pizza dinner will be provided on Sunday before the concert.• Vocalists: please bring your own microphone and microphone lead.
