- **Event Description**: Forged for the Future: Blacksmithing & Traditional Trades Program

Give your kids the opportunity to learn a traditional trade through hands-on experience!

Forged for the Future is an ongoing, small-group trades program designed for students ages 7 and up who are interested in blacksmithing, traditional craftsmanship, and developing practical skills over time.

This isn't a different craft each month. Students will learn foundational techniques, practice their skills, and build on what they've learned through future sessions as they gain experience and confidence. We have multiple dates available for our initial sessions with PoseyMetalworx.

What Will Students Learn?

We'll begin with the fundamentals of blacksmithing, including:

- Hammer control and forging fundamentals
- Understanding how metal moves and responds to heat and hammering
- Practicing tapers and scrolls
- Creating simple projects such as wall hooks, S-hooks, and other small forged items

As students develop their skills, future sessions will introduce additional techniques and more detailed projects.

Who Can Participate?

- Ages: 7 and up, with a focus on upper elementary through high school
- Group size:6 confirmed spots per session
- Experience: No prior blacksmithing experience is necessary.
- Parent/caregiver requirement: A parent or caregiver must remain with their child throughout the session. Younger children require active supervision.
- Safety: Students must be willing to follow directions and practice safe tool handling.

Sessions will be approximately 2 hours long and will provide guided instruction alongside practical, hands-on learning.

Scheduling & Ongoing Participation

Multiple session dates are available so families can select the dates that work best for their schedules. While ongoing participation is not required, we strongly encourage attending approximately every two weeks to help students build consistency, strengthen their skills, and get the most educational value from the experience.

Because our instructor is a firefighter, scheduling may vary around his work schedule.

Registration & Payment

Advance registration is required. Each session has 6 available spots, and families are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. Your registration is not finalized until payment is processed/received.

- Step 1: Register. Select the date or dates that work for your family through the SignUpGenius link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084BAEAE2DAAFCC43-66691153-forged

- Step 2: Registration closes. Registration for each session will close 10 days before the scheduled date.

- Step 3: Receive your final cost. The cost per student will be determined based on the number of students registered for each session. Final pricing and payment instructions will be sent after registration closes.

- Step 4: Submit payment. Final pricing and payment instructions will be sent after registration closes. Payment is due no later than 7 days before the session to confirm your child's spot.

Because the instructional fee is shared among participating students, the cost per student may vary depending on enrollment. Please wait for the final price and payment instructions before submitting payment.

If a session has fewer participants than anticipated, we will communicate with registered families about the cost and available options before proceeding.

Location & Property Considerations

These sessions will take place at our instructor's private home and property, which includes a small, working blacksmith setup. This is not a commercial facility, so space is limited and we ask all participating families to be mindful of the setting.

Parking is limited. Please follow the parking instructions provided before your scheduled session and avoid blocking driveways or access areas.

Space is limited. Our group size is intentionally small to allow for hands-on instruction while maintaining appropriate spacing around the forge and equipment.

Supervision is required. A parent or caregiver must remain with their child throughout the session and help ensure that safety expectations are followed.

Respect the property. Please remain within the designated areas and follow the instructor's directions regarding where students and families may gather.

Additional location and arrival instructions will be shared with registered families before the session. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, respectful, and enjoyable learning environment for everyone.

Why Learn a Traditional Trade?

Blacksmithing offers more than the opportunity to make something from metal. Students can develop patience, focus, problem-solving, discipline, confidence, and practical tool skills while discovering the satisfaction of creating something with their own hands.

We're excited to help the next generation explore traditional craftsmanship, learn by doing, and build skills they can continue developing over time.

Ready to join us? Review the available dates in SignUpGenius and reserve the sessions that work best for your family. With only 6 spots per session, early registration is encouraged!
