This year we are delighted to present the acclaimed 2021 Maltese film Carmen, starring Natascha McElhone. Described by critics as a “hidden gem” and praised for its beautiful cinematography and heartfelt storytelling, the award-winning film celebrates Malta’s rich culture, traditions and landscapes through the moving story of one woman’s journey to discover herself. Filmed entirely in Malta, Carmen showcases the beauty of our islands while exploring themes of identity, freedom and community. For this screening, we will be showing the English-language version of the film, making it accessible to both local and international audiences. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience contemporary Maltese cinema in a truly unique outdoor setting. Food A selection of freshly prepared meals will be available to enjoy before the film. All food must be pre-booked when purchasing your ticket. No food will be available to purchase on the night. If you wish to dine before the screening, please select the ticket option that includes your chosen meal. Drinks Wine, beer, soft drinks and water will be available to purchase throughout the evening. Drinks can be bought by card only at the entrance. You will be issued with drink tokens, which can then be exchanged for drinks at the bar. Please note that cash will not be accepted. Timings 7:30 pm – Gates open 7:45 pm – Food service begins 8:45 pm – Film screening starts What to Bring Cinema Under the Stars is an outdoor event on the lawns of Villa Bologna. Seating is not provided, so please remember to bring your own camping chair, picnic blanket or cushions to ensure you are comfortable throughout the evening. Food will be served before the screening, after which you can settle in and enjoy the film beneath the stars in one of Malta’s most beautiful historic gardens. Whether you’re a fan of Maltese cinema or simply looking for a memorable evening out with friends and family, Cinema Under the Stars is the perfect way to enjoy a warm summer’s night while supporting FAA’s work. Getting There Please note that parking at Villa Bologna is on-street parking only and is very limited. We encourage guests to consider alternative transport where possible. The venue is conveniently served by bus routes 54 and 106, both of which stop within a short walk of Villa Bologna. Alternatively, we recommend using Bolt or Uber, which provide a convenient drop-off and collection option close to the venue.
