As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day this year (April 22, 2020), we are reminded that environmental conditions are changing in ways that significantly impact New Jersey communities and residents. Extreme precipitation events, chronic flooding, coastal storms and erosion, sea level rise and other conditions continue to present challenges for floodplain managers throughout the state. At the same time, development and redevelopment is taking place in areas that will remain vulnerable to flooding for years to come. The New Jersey Association for Floodplain Management (NJAFM) 2020 annual conference will focus on “Climate Action” to address these ongoing challenges, to identify solutions to mitigate the adverse impacts of flood and storm hazards in New Jersey and to adapt to changing conditions in the future.
The New Jersey Association for Floodplain Management (NJAFM) annual conference is the premier floodplain management conference in the Northeast. With more than 40 speakers and hundreds of participants, this is the conference that regional floodplain managers from the public and private sector plan to attend. In addition, many consulting firms and product vendors associated with floodplain management attend as well.
The annual conference provides an opportunity for professionals in the fields of floodplain management, engineering, hydrology, geology, planning, code enforcement and emergency management to participate in Plenary Sessions and concurrent technical sessions on a broad range of relevant topics. The conference also includes a number of training opportunities and networking events.
The NJAFM 16th annual conference will be held on October 27, 28 and 29, 2020 at the Hard Rock Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. The conference includes pre-conference floodplain management training on October 27; our renowned moderated Cracker Barrel session on a wide array of floodplain management topics on the evening of October 27; a full conference program on October 28; a half-day conference program on October 29; and a proctored Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) exam and Ethics Training session on the afternoon of October 29.
In addition, the conference provides an opportunity to recognize floodplain management professionals through the NJAFM Awards and the NJAFM/FEMA Community Rating System Awards.
As always, Continuing Education Credits will be available for Professional Engineers, Professional Planners, Certified Floodplain Managers and Municipal Construction Code Officials.
