Rather than simply reacting to AI, this session creates space to think together about how we might describe, frame, and communicate what is at stake.Through guided reflection and group conversation, participants will map their own practices and surface the questions, challenges, and potentials AI raises for our creative community. Together, we will move toward a shared manifesto that articulates what matters, what feels at stake, and how we might respond collectively. This is not a lecture but a working session. It is a space to think with others, build language for your practice, and take part in shaping a broader conversation.During this 2 hour workshop, participants can expect:A facilitated, discussion-based workshop led by researchers from Georgia Tech’s Public Design WorkshopGuided reflection on your own creative practice and relationship to AISmall group conversations exploring concerns, opportunities, and shared valuesCollaborative exercises to help build language and framing around AI in the artsContribution to a collective “manifesto” shaped by participants’ ideas and perspectivesAn open, welcoming environment for creatives of all backgrounds AKA no technical experience requiredImportant NotesAdvance registration is requiredAttendees must provide their own transportation to the siteAges 18+Parking and Directions to Freeside Atlanta Makerspace:Address: 3043 Commerce Way, Atlanta, Georgia 30354Parking: Parking is free inside the complex.Getting to Freeside:Take I-75 exit 241 (south of of its split with I-85), Cleveland Avenue.Keep right and follow signs for Cleveland Avenue.Drive straight across Cleveland Avenue to continue on Forrest Hills Dr SW.Follow Forrest Hills which will become Commerce Way.You'll see Freeside's rear door and gates on the left near the end of the road.Turn in to the complex and follow the road between the two brick buildings. On reaching the end of the road, you should see our front door on the leftAbout the Public Design Workshop at Georgia TechThe Public Design Workshop is an academic design research studio. Our work draws together design, the social sciences, and the humanities to investigate the role of information and communication technologies in shaping public life. This involves both prototyping experimental digital systems and services, and critically analyzing existing digital systems and practices.Much of our current work involves the Internet of Things (IoT) and exploring how IoT technologies and services might be re-imagined and differently configured to support civic and collective endeavors. For instance, we are researching the design and use of IoT in smart cities, to support urban foraging, and in co-housing communities.Another strand of research explores the design and use of computational media for political engagement and expression. Currently we are focusing on two particular media forms: bots and maps. With bots we are researching the design of Twitter bots for political parody and commentary. With maps we are researching how the visual representation of geographic data supports arguments about urban development.Institutionally we are situated within the Digital Media program in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, at the Georgia Institute of Technology.About Freeside Atlanta MakerspaceEstablished in 2009, Freeside Atlanta is a 501(c)3 non-profit makerspace built entirely by volunteers. As a Makerspace Partner Freeside offers Public Art Futures Lab artists-in-residence space to create the physical aspects of their projects from 3D printing to fabricated metal. Freeside Atlanta's mission is to provide resources to makers and creatives through classes, workshops, collaborative projects & partnerships, workspace, and community activities to encourage learning, mentoring, and growth in an accessible and welcoming space.About AIAIWe are an intentionally interdisciplinary network of Atlanta-based researchers investigating how to enlist AI ethically, equitably, and in the service of justice. We aim to bring the city of Atlanta, with its historical place in the civil rights movement, to current conversations about the biases embedded in our AI systems. We believe that an equitable, ethical, and justice-oriented approach to AI is possible when humanistic ways of thinking come together with technical knowledge and community expertise.----Stay Connected: For more information on this event and future happenings, follow us on Instagram and visit our website PublicArtFuturesLab.com for updates.About the Public Art Futures Lab: The Public Art Futures Lab is a space to exhibit, experiment, educate and experience the role of technology as it relates to public art.
