Lifeguard Pretest - CT Martin/Adamsville Rec Center, 2/23, 1 pm - 2 pm
Calling all Swimmers! American Pool is offering a Lifeguard Camp for those who would like to become an American Red Cross Lifeguard for the Summer of 2018.
THIS CAMP IS NOT SWIM LESSONS, but the opportunity to demonstrate your swimming skills in order to become a certified Lifeguard.
The following skills are required to register for the Lifeguard Training course:
1. Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.
2. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, utilizing front crawl (freestyle) & breaststroke techniques.
3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs, placing your hands under your armpits to demonstrate ability.
4. Complete a times event within 1 minute and 40 seconds:
a. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
b. Surace dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
c. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surace so you can get a breath.
d. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
