This event celebrates the legacy of the David C. Driskell Prize, which recognizes significant contributions to African American art and art history.

Named in honor of renowned artist and scholar David C. Driskell, the Driskell Prize was established by the High in 2005 as the first national award celebrating early or midcareer scholars and artists making field-defining contributions to African American art and art history. Since the prize’s inception, the funds have supported the acquisition of fifty works by African American artists into the High’s collection.
