This course consists of three parts on three separate days (Mar. 15, Apr. 12, May 10) from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.
Demographics and attitudes are constantly changing, not to mention state, federal and local regulations. Many communities face tough decisions about how and where they will grow in the coming years. This course provides citizen planners and community leaders the technical knowledge and leadership skills necessary to successfully envision and plan vibrant communities.
Day One: Friday, March 15, 2019Introduces the foundations of planning in Georgia and the Atlanta region. This includes a history of land use planning and regulation, an overview of related legislation and case law, a look at current planning issues, and a demographic snapshot of our region.
Day Two: Friday, April 12, 2019Offers critical information on more special topics in planning, including how to navigate the complexity of transportation planning and natural resource planning given the changing dynamics of metro Atlanta, as well as how longevity is impacting the growth of our communities.
Day Three: Friday, May 10, 2019Provides focused guidance on how to make use of course information in the activities of your planning commission, and how to build capacity and exercise effective leadership in planning for your community.
Training for Planning Officials provides valuable knowledge, resources and tools that give planning commission members and others involved in the planning process confidence in making educated, effective decisions to help shape their community.
